Gemstone & Jewellery Certification

At Keanis, we believe your jewellery should be as trustworthy as it is beautiful. That’s why we provide independent IGI certification for every main stone or finished piece that meets our threshold — giving you complete confidence in the authenticity and quality of your jewellery.

Gemstone & Jewellery Certification

Why certification matters

Certification brings more than just reassurance — it brings clarity, trust, and long-term value. At Keanis, we believe that every significant stone deserves to be professionally verified. That’s why we go beyond what most UK jewellers offer. While many provide IGI certificates only for lab-grown diamonds, we’re proud to be among the first jewellers to offer IGI certification for lab-grown coloured gemstones as well.

This means:

  • - You receive verified documentation for your diamonds and gemstones — not just for centre stones, but also for multi-stone designs.

  • - You’re buying a piece that’s not only beautiful, but also transparent and traceable — with quality confirmed by one of the world’s most respected gem labs.

  • - It adds enduring value to your jewellery, making it easier to insure, appraise, or pass on as an heirloom.

Every certified Keanis piece represents our commitment to honesty, precision, and craftsmanship. Because when something is meant to last, it should be backed by proof that it was made to the highest standards.

  • Type & composition

Indicates whether the report applies to a loose gemstone or a finished piece, and confirms the metal used.

  • Weight, shape & measurements

Covers carat weight, stone shape (like round or oval), and precise measurements in millimetres.

  • Grading information

Outlines the 4Cs — carat, cut, colour, and clarity — with grading tailored to each stone type, whether diamond or coloured gemstone.

  • Report number & inscription

Each IGI certificate has a unique ID number for tracking. Most diamonds also feature this number laser-inscribed on the stone.

Understanding your IGI report

Peace of mind, with every piece.

At Keanis, we believe your jewellery should be as trustworthy as it is beautiful. That’s why we provide independent IGI certification for every main stone or finished piece that meets our threshold — giving you complete confidence in the authenticity and quality of your jewellery.

01 Main Diamonds (0.5ct or above)

Diamond report

Each centre diamond of 0.50 carat or more is accompanied by an individual IGI laboratory grown diamond report.

This report provides a detailed analysis of the diamond’s cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, offering complete transparency on its grading. The certificate also includes a unique identification number, often laser-inscribed on the stone’s girdle, allowing you to match the diamond to its report for added assurance.

02 Gemstones (2.0ct or above)

Coloured stone report

Every coloured gemstone weighing 2 carats or more is issued with an IGI coloured stone report.

This report outlines the gem’s type, carat weight, shape, and measurements, along with a detailed evaluation of its colour and clarity. It provides confirmation that the gemstone has been carefully assessed by IGI experts to international grading standards.

03 Multi-Stone Settings (3 stones or more)

Jewellery report

For designs set with three or more gemstones and a total carat weight of 2 carats or above, we provide an IGI jewellery report.

Rather than certifying each stone individually, this report verifies the entire piece as a finished design, including the total carat weight, stone types, and metal composition. It offers a holistic record of craftsmanship, ensuring that the finished jewellery meets IGI’s recognised standards for precision and quality.

More about gemstone & jewellery certification

  • While not every gemstone on the market comes with a certificate, we strongly recommend choosing certified stones — especially for centrepieces or higher-value pieces. Certification offers independent verification of both quality and authenticity, helping you make informed decisions with complete confidence.

Without certification, it can be difficult to distinguish between genuine gemstones and simulants — stones that may look similar but lack the same composition, value, or durability. Some are marketed under misleading names that confuse even well-intentioned buyers.

At Keanis, we provide IGI certification for qualifying diamonds, coloured gemstones, and multi-stone jewellery, so you’ll always know exactly what you’re getting — and why it’s worth treasuring.

  • Lab-grown diamonds are certified and graded using the same rigorous standards applied to natural diamonds. Leading gemological laboratories in the lab-grown sector, like IGI (International Gemological Institute), issue grading reports that assess the diamond based on its carat, colour, clarity, and cut to ensure consistency and transparency.

Each grading report clearly states that the diamond is laboratory-grown and also identifies the method of formation, whether it was created using High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD). The report will also disclose if any post-growth treatments have been applied to the diamond, or note if a treatment status could not be determined.

IGI laser-inscribes each lab-grown diamond with “LABGROWN” to help distinguish it from natural stones. In terms of documentation, IGI offers both digital and printed grading reports. These confirm the diamond’s quality, specifications, and lab-grown origin — giving you full confidence in your stone’s authenticity and characteristics.

  • Both coloured and colourless lab-grown diamonds are graded by respected gemological institutes such as IGI, with reports that detail the diamond’s carat weight, clarity, and cut.

The main difference lies in how colour is assessed. Instead of the traditional D–Z scale used for colourless diamonds, coloured diamonds are evaluated based on the tone and saturation of their hue — such as pink, blue, or yellow. This ensures a consistent, transparent standard for grading the unique beauty of each coloured stone.

Every coloured lab diamond at Keanis comes with an IGI grading report, offering you confidence in its quality, character, and craftsmanship.

  • Lab-grown diamonds are typically laser-inscribed with their IGI report number along the girdle for traceability and assurance. However, coloured gemstones — such as emeralds, sapphires, and rubies — are rarely inscribed, as the process is more delicate and not commonly applied.

If you'd like to confirm the stone, it's common practice to cross-check that the stone's specifications match the details listed on the certificate.

  • At the moment, we only offer IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds. This ensures you receive full transparency through the traditional 4Cs grading system — carat, colour, clarity, and cut.

GIA recently announced that it will be phasing out 4Cs grading for lab-grown diamonds by the end of 2025. Instead, lab-grown diamonds will be categorised more broadly as “Premium,” “Standard,” or left ungraded. As this new system offers less detail, we’ve chosen to continue working with IGI for now, so you can make fully informed decisions when selecting your stone.
