Precious Metal Guide
At Keanis, we craft all our jewellery using only Platinum 950 and 18K gold (available in white, yellow, or rose) — the same exceptional standard used by the world’s most renowned fine jewellery houses. These premium materials offer not only lasting strength and beauty, but also true heirloom value.
Our most loved precious metal options
Platinum 950 – sleek, enduring, and naturally white with luxurious weight.
18K yellow gold – warm, rich, and radiant. A timeless classic.
Whether you're drawn to cool elegance of platinum or the the buttery tone of yellow gold, each option is chosen to elevate the piece it holds — and the story it represents.
What is platinum 950?
Platinum 950 is one of the purest and rarest metals used in jewellery, made with 95% pure platinum. It has a naturally white sheen that never fades, and is notably heavier and more durable than gold — making it especially popular for engagement rings and wedding bands.
Its density and purity not only give platinum a luxurious weight and feel, but also mean it’s hypoallergenic, ideal for sensitive skin. Compared to 18K white gold, platinum retains its colour without needing to be re-plated over time, offering understated elegance that lasts a lifetime.
What is 18K gold?
18K gold is composed of 75% pure gold, blended with other precious alloys to achieve the desired hue and strength. It’s the ideal balance between purity and durability, making it the gold standard for fine jewellery worldwide.
You may have come across 9K or 14K gold — these contain just 37.5% and 58.5% pure gold respectively, which makes them more affordable, but also less valuable, softer in colour, and more prone to tarnishing or wear over time.
At Keanis, we choose 18K gold for its superior warmth, richness, and longevity — a true reflection of timeless quality.
What about silver, gold-plated, or gold vermeil jewellery?
While often used in fashion jewellery, silver, gold plating, and gold vermeil do not meet the standard for fine jewellery. These materials are more affordable because they use a base metal — usually silver or brass — coated with a thin layer of gold.
- - Gold-plated jewellery wears away over time, especially with daily wear.
- - Gold vermeil, though slightly thicker, is still only gold on the outside.
- - Sterling silver is more durable, but prone to tarnish and doesn’t hold value the same way as gold or platinum.
At Keanis, we do not offer plated or vermeil pieces — we believe in creating jewellery with lasting integrity, using only precious metals through and through.
Our signature two-tone craftsmanship
Many of our most iconic designs feature a sophisticated blend of 18K yellow gold and white gold — offering a timeless contrast that elevates both colour and form. While some jewellery houses achieve this look by plating yellow gold over a white gold base, we take a far more refined approach.
At Keanis, each two-tone piece is crafted using two distinct solid gold alloys:
- The yellow gold sections are made from pure 18K yellow gold, celebrated for its warm, sunlit glow.
- The white gold sections are made from pure 18K white gold, offering a clean, silvery brightness.
The result is a seamless blend of metals that’s both structurally sound and visually striking — designed to maintain its beauty, colour integrity, and value over time.
This level of detail is part of our commitment to creating jewellery that’s as enduring as it is elegant.
