Lab Grown Emerald

Emeralds have long been prized for their lush green beauty and timeless symbolism of renewal, growth, and love. Our lab grown emeralds honour this legacy with stones that look and feel as captivating as the finest natural gems — crafted with care, and without compromise.

Lab Grown Emerald

What are lab grown emeralds?

Lab grown emeralds are genuine emeralds, created in a controlled environment rather than mined. Chemically, physically, and optically identical to their natural counterparts, they are composed of beryl infused with chromium and vanadium — the elements responsible for their rich green hue. With a hardness of 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale, they share the same beauty and durability as mined emeralds, offering brilliance that stands the test of time.

  • A treasured classic

Emeralds are one of the world’s “Big Three” precious coloured gemstones, admired for centuries and associated with renewal, wisdom, and love.

  • Rich green radiance

Lab grown emeralds display the vivid, saturated hues that make emeralds so cherished, from bright spring greens to the coveted bluish “Muzo” tones.

  • Sustainability by nature

Created without mining, lab grown emeralds offer all the beauty of natural stones without the environmental or ethical concerns.

Why Choose Lab Grown Emeralds?

A gem of rare character

The 4Cs of Keanis lab grown emeralds

Our lab grown emeralds are chosen with the same care and discernment as our finest diamonds. Guided by our interpretation of the 4Cs — Colour, Clarity, Craft, and Confidence — we ensure every emerald embodies the rich beauty, natural character, and trusted quality that set Keanis apart.

01 colour

The Muzo standard

We select only emeralds that display the coveted “Muzo” bluish-green tone — considered the finest in natural emeralds — for a depth and vibrancy that feels truly exceptional.

02 Clarity

Beautifully natural

Unlike many lab emeralds on the market that appear overly flawless and “plastic,” our emeralds carry subtle inclusions — just like the most desirable natural stones. These inclusions enhance their authenticity, character, and natural-looking beauty.

03 Craft

Uncompromised excellence

We never use low-cost methods like flux or flame fusion, which produce inconsistent results. Instead, we source emeralds grown with advanced techniques that ensure beauty, durability, and quality.

04 Confidence

Certified and assured

Each emerald is IGI-certified, confirming its authenticity, colour, and quality. As the only retailer to offer IGI-certified lab emeralds in the UK, we’re proud to bring complete transparency and assurance to your jewellery.

Others

Overly bright, flawless, and artificial in appearance.

Us vs them

Unlike many lab grown emeralds on the market that appear overly bright and unnaturally flawless, our emeralds are carefully chosen for the coveted Muzo bluish-green tone and subtle inclusions that mirror the character of the finest natural stones. Side by side, the difference is clear — while others may look “plastic,” Keanis emeralds glow with depth, authenticity, and a beauty that feels truly alive.

More about lab grown emeralds

  • For natural emeralds, origin plays a key role in determining beauty and value. Some of the most well-known emerald sources include Zambia, Brazil, Ethiopia, and most famously, Colombia — which produces emeralds prized for their saturated green hues.

Within Colombia, the Muzo mines are world-renowned for producing some of the most sought-after emeralds. Muzo emeralds are known for their vivid, lush green colour with a subtle hint of blue, and are often associated with superior clarity and glow. They have long been favoured by royalty, collectors, and high jewellery maisons for their exceptional quality and rarity.

Even in the world of lab-grown emeralds, Muzo-like colour and internal character are considered a gold standard — capturing the spirit of these iconic gems without the environmental or ethical costs of mining.

  • Emeralds form in intense geological conditions, and the result is often internal features called inclusions. In fact, inclusions are so common in emeralds that they have their own poetic name: “jardin,” the French word for garden — because of their organic, mossy appearance. Rather than flaws, these inclusions are considered part of the stone’s natural beauty and story.

  • Just like their finest natural counterparts, our lab-grown emeralds contain natural-looking inclusions — some more, some less. These delicate features give each stone a unique character. We handpick each emerald to ensure it has just the right amount of inner texture while remaining clean, wearable, and beautiful. It’s a fine balance that gives the gem both personality and polish.

  • Inclusions can sometimes make natural emeralds more fragile, but at Keanis, we carefully select lab-grown emeralds with enhanced clarity and structure. Each stone we choose has subtle, natural-looking inclusions that preserve the character of emeralds without compromising on strength — giving you beauty, authenticity, and confidence in every wear.

  • We do not sell lab-grown emeralds with clarity enhancement or resin filling. Each of our stones is carefully selected in its natural lab-grown state, chosen for its rich colour and beautiful internal character. While minor inclusions are a natural feature of emeralds, we handpick only those with beautiful clarity and structure, ensuring an appearance that’s authentic, balanced, and full of life.

  • Carat is a measure of weight, not size — and different gemstones have different densities. This means that two stones with the same dimensions may have very different carat weights depending on the material. That’s why at Keanis, we list dimensions for coloured gemstones, as this provides a more helpful and visual guide to how the stone will look when worn.

  • Gemstones are often cut with greater depth — particularly in the pavilion, or lower half — to enhance their colour. Unlike diamonds, where brilliance is the primary goal, coloured gemstones rely on body colour for beauty. A slightly deeper cut allows light to interact with the stone in a way that intensifies and enriches the hue, giving your gemstone a more vivid and captivating appearance.

  • Lab-grown diamonds are typically laser-inscribed with their IGI report number along the girdle for traceability and assurance. However, coloured gemstones — such as emeralds, sapphires, and rubies — are rarely inscribed, as the process is more delicate and not commonly applied.

If you'd like to confirm the stone, it's common practice to cross-check that the stone's specifications match the details listed on the certificate.

  • Yes — with the right care, lab-grown emeralds can be worn and enjoyed every day. While emeralds are slightly softer than sapphires and rubies, the stones we select are chosen for their excellent clarity and structure, making them ideal for fine jewellery.

To keep your emerald radiant, we recommend gently cleaning it with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals, and be mindful of impacts or knocks that could chip the stone.

With proper care, your emerald will remain just as vibrant as the day it was chosen.
